My latest attempt at making washing, conditioning, detangling and even more conditioning as pain-free as possible is to comb her hair out and put it up while it's wet, wet, wet and soaking with conditioner.
We still have a little bit of a fight, you'd think her scalp would have toughened up by now!

I can relate. My hair can only be brushed while it's wet too. Then I have to leave it alone. I always get the best snarls! Curly hair is the best! :)
Her hair ROCKS ! rocks. Love that fro.
