How'd They Do That . . .

Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
They are finally building next door, right next door to us. No more bright orange, heaven only knows what's actually in the odd colored mine tailings, rocky mounds for the boys to slide down, play in, collect in every pocket. Soon, hopefully sooner rather than later, new neighbors. Anyone interested?

Monday morning woke up to newly spray-painted excavation markings.

Unloading the Excavator. Looking towards the alley.
This all started on Monday. I didn't actually go outside to see the work being done. We just kept checking progress through Lillie's bedroom window. Took a few pictures before they actually started scooping. I did get a little concerned when I saw two HVAC trucks pull up in the afternoon and realized they were doing something right outside my kitchen window. Figured maybe someone bumped something off the side of our house, something small and fairly insignificant. If it was something big, I knew they'd come ring the doorbell and let me know.

Monday evening we went to Malcolm's preschool graduation. Upon returning home, we took a peek at the site from the alley before pulling into the garage and were stunned to see we were lacking our AC unit. Agreed, our lots are tiny. Perfect for those of us who don't care to do much yard work and enjoy the plethora of parks within walking distance from our homes. If you look at the above picture taken from Lillie's room, you'd wonder too how'd they do that, or how the heck are they going to do that, fitting another house in that space.

View of the excavated lot Tuesday morning. Looking from the street (front) towards the alley (back).

Simultaneously, as Dave jumped out of the car to see if our AC unit had taken a tumble into the excavated abyss, he was calling the builder. With all the rain we've had, the ground was saturated. Mini landslide took our AC unit down. At least I knew it wasn't something we'd have to replace. Well, all that work outside my kitchen window, the HVAC people, they were removing the AC unit and the builder is storing it until it can be reinstalled. The builder felt bad they didn't let us know . . . maybe they should pay for and AC check/tune up once it's back.

Our exposed guest room window well. The light gravel patch next to it is where the AC unit sat.

Looking from our front porch down the side of the house . . . beginning to wonder what the exposed pipe is.

We are temporarily hoping the weather stays cool while they pour the footings & foundation and back fill the lot. There will be five feet between our house and the house next door . . . can you imagine? So glad we live on a corner and have a full east-facing yard. Still excited about the whole thing, no more empty lot, new neighbors & friends, even without our AC unit.

Yay for no more empty lot. Just keep an eye on the workers and make sure they are not plugging into your electricity. I've seen them do that multiple times at different houses. Can't wait to see the house color!

I hope you LOVE your next door neighbors. It would be terrible if you didn't :)

It does look terribly close . . . but there will be 5 feet between houses :)
